Black baba Cake

We’re not racists, but we do have a Black Baba – north Moldova’s most traditional cake with a unique flavor and texture.

Baba Neagră, or Black Baba, is a traditional cake from Northern Moldova, known for its rich flavor and dark color, not from cocoa, but from a slow bake with oil, baking soda, and buttermilk. Soft, elastic, and slightly pudding-like, it melts in your mouth and is often paired with Baba Albă, a sweet noodle pudding, for a delicious contrast. A true taste of Moldovan baking tradition.
